Indulge in the rich flavors of Garlic Butter Steak Cheddar Potato Bake, a perfect dish for weeknight dinners or cozy gatherings. This recipe combines tender steak, creamy cheddar, and golden potatoes in a luscious garlic butter sauce.

Ingredients

  • Steak (ribeye or sirloin, or substitute with flank steak or chicken)
  • Russet potatoes (or Yukon gold potatoes as a substitute)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese (or Monterey Jack or Gruyère for a milder taste)
  • Fresh minced garlic (or garlic powder as a substitute)
  • Unsalted butter (or vegan butter for a dairy-free option)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Herbs (thyme or rosemary optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Wash and peel the potatoes. Slice them thinly (about 1/8-inch thick) to ensure they cook evenly.
  3. In a skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Season your steak with salt and pepper, then sear it for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Remove it from the skillet and let it rest.
  4. In the same skillet, reduce the heat and add another tablespoon of butter. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Remove from heat.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom. Drizzle half of the garlic butter over them. Next, slice the rested steak thinly and layer it over the potatoes. Add another layer of the remaining potatoes, topping with the rest of the garlic butter.
  6. Generously sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the layered potatoes and steak.
  7. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving.

Keywords: For the best flavor, let your steak come to room temperature before cooking. Mixing different types of potatoes can give the bake a unique flavor and texture. Experiment with different cheese blends and consider adding fresh herbs on top before serving.
