Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend recommended for juiciness)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 slider buns (mini burger buns)
  • 6 slices of cheddar cheese, halved
  • Lettuce leaves (for garnish)
  • Tomato slices (for garnish)
  • Pickles (for garnish)
  • 1 large onion, sliced into ¼-inch rings
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Start by preparing the onion ring chips. Slice the onion into ¼-inch rings and separate the rings. In a bowl, soak the onion rings in 1 cup of buttermilk for at least 15 minutes.
  2. While the onions are soaking, mix the flour, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper in a shallow dish.
  3. In another bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, olive oil, garlic powder, and salt. Stir until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated with oil and seasonings.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat (about 350°F).
  5. Once the oil is hot, take the soaked onion rings out of the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off, then dip them into the seasoned flour, coating them well.
  6. Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil, frying them for 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown. Flip them halfway through for even cooking.
  7. Now, let's make the sliders! In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Form the mixture into 12 equal-sized patties.
  8. Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Add a half slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
  9. While the burgers are cooking, toast the slider buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster.
  10. To assemble, place a patty on the bottom half of each slider bun, add lettuce, tomato, and pickles, and top with a few onion ring chips. Finish with the top half of the bun.

Keywords: When frying the onion rings, ensure the oil temperature is consistent. For added flavor, consider adding Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture. Fresh panko breadcrumbs yield the best crunch.
